Korean romanizer
Type Hangul to get the official romanization (Revised Romanization of Korean, 2000), the spoken form and the sound rules behind it. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How it works
Romanization follows pronunciation: 신라 → Silla, 종로 → Jongno, 같이 → gachi, 좋고 → joko. Tensing is not written: 압구정 → Apgujeong. ㄹㄹ is written ll: 울릉 → Ulleung.
For a person’s name, the family name comes first and the given name is written without sound changes: 한복남 → Han Boknam. Many family names have customary spellings in passports (김 Kim, 이 Lee, 박 Park). For anything official, use the spelling in the passport.
Limits: some sound changes depend on how a word is built, which a converter cannot see. 학여울 is said [항녀울] because an ㄴ is added between 학 and 여울, so the official spelling is Hangnyeoul; this tool writes hagyeoul. When ㄱ, ㄷ or ㅂ meets ㅎ, nouns keep the h (묵호 → Mukho) while verb forms merge it (잡혀 → japyeo). The tool makes a guess and shows the other spelling under the word.
