[정]jeong情
a deep, lasting bond
Culture word
jeong — the warm, lasting bond that grows between people over time
1
Meaning & nuance
정 (情) is affection and attachment that builds up through time spent together — with family, friends and neighbors, and even with a place or an old phone. It does not have to be romantic.
It lives in set phrases: 정이 들다 (to grow attached), 정이 많다 (to be warm-hearted), 정을 붙이다 (to make an effort to like a new place). 미운 정 고운 정 is the bond that holds both the lovely and the annoying moments of a long relationship.
